The app appears as Shelter on your iPhone.

I cannot hear anything

Tap Step inside or the play button, then check the iPhone’s media volume and Shelter’s volume control. Check whether sound is routed to headphones, Bluetooth, or AirPlay. Sound begins with a tap each time you reopen Shelter.

Where did the controls go?

The controls fade while you listen. Tap the room to bring them back, then use the controls button to expand the panel. Set it yourself opens the labelled weather and room controls.

I want steady rain, whatever the real weather is

Choose Your own weather in the place picker. You can set rain, wind, and thunder yourself and listen offline. In live mode, the selected place decides those conditions; you can still change the roof, window, and lantern.

Is this sound recorded live at my chosen place?

No. Shelter mixes bundled field recordings to reflect Apple Weather’s latest reading. The illustrated shelter is an interpretation of the conditions, not a camera or microphone at that location.

The weather or widget looks out of date

Weather readings can lag, and widgets use a saved forecast. Open Shelter with a connection and check the reading’s time. iOS decides when background refresh and widget updates run. If weather is unavailable, you can use Your own weather.

A rain or sunrise note did not arrive

Enable the note for your named place and allow Shelter notifications in iOS Settings. Notes use a forecast, so they can be early, late, or wrong. Focus settings, notification permissions, and background refresh can affect delivery.

How do I stop listening later?

Open Sleep timer and choose a duration. The timer fades playback to silence. You can cancel it or pause the sound at any time.

Can I make the scene still or clear its history?

Enable Reduce Motion in iOS Accessibility settings for a still scene without lightning. Turn off Remember things seen in Shelter’s settings to clear and stop saving the discovery history.
